ANVIL KNITWEAR ARRIVES IN CANADA VIA TECHNOSPORT; INNOVATIVE TEES MADE FROM ORGANIC COTTON & RECYCLED P.E.T
New York, NY - Monday December 05 2011
NEW YORK - (December 5, 2011) – Canadians will no longer have to choose between helping the environment and a super-soft quality t-shirt. Today, Anvil Knitwear is proud to announce a partnership that will allow their popular Eco Collection to be offered through Technosport Canada, the country’s largest activewear clothing distributor. The style selection will be with AnvilOrganic® and AnvilSustainableTM.
“Environmental responsibility has always been a part of Anvil Knitwear, and through our investment in CSR, our customers now make that connection with our brand,” said Anthony Corsano, CEO of Anvil Knitwear. “With Technosport’s partnership, we’re ensuring that t-shirt wearers in Canada can make the right choice without sacrificing personal style.”
Through its new partnership with Anvil, Technosport will offer two brand new, environmentally-mindful product lines:
• AnvilSustainableTM: Made from post-consumer P.E.T. polyester and combed ring spun transitional cotton (or cotton in conversion), these tees support the recycling of plastic bottles and the conversion of acreage from conventional cotton farming to organic cotton farming. Each AnvilSustainableTM tee uses approximately three 20-ounce recycled P.E.T. plastic bottles and cotton that comes from farms undergoing the three-year process of transitioning to organic (or have become certified organic); each shirt has an estimated cradle-to-grave product life cycle assessment of kg 3.29 CO2e.
• AnvilOrganic®: Made from certified organic cotton, these t-shirts are produced by a system of farming that avoids the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers; they have an estimated cradle-to-grave product life cycle assessment of kg 3.09 CO2e per shirt.

“Technosport Canada’s customers are looking for responsible and eco-friendly shirt options without compromising on comfort, style and fit,” said Luc Beauchamp, CEO of Technosport Canada. “This new collection will be a plus in the Canadian market.”
All cotton is certified in compliance with organic production standards and requirements in the United States. As the largest buyer of U.S.-grown organic cotton and transitional cotton, Anvil works closely with American farmers to promote the organic cotton market with the AnvilSustainableTM and AnvilOrganic® t-shirt lines. In addition, Anvil launched the “Double IT!” campaign, an initiative to double the domestic acreage of organic cotton by providing a financial incentive to traditional cotton farmers so that they are able to realize the environmental benefits of organic cotton farming. Supporting farmers' transition means fewer pollutants will make their way into the water supply and threaten forms of human, animal and plant life. Anvil produced a digital short, “A Message from Earth: Organic Matters,”as part of its commitment to educating farmers and consumers about the benefits of making organic choices.
