How do you Measure a Basic Tee Shirt?

Before Measuring:
Review Figure below for reference.

Surface used for garment measuring should be clean and smooth. Do not use fabric. covered surfaces for garment measuring.

Lay garment flat on surface, face up, smoothed with no wrinkles and with sleeves fully extended at a right angle to the body (except where otherwise noted).

Do not stretch any part of the garment!

Measure from left-to-right 1" below bottom of armhole seam.

B.

Body Length*

Measure from junction of collarette to shoulder seam straight down to bottom hem edge.

C.

Armhole Length

Position front armhole seam directly over back armhole seam. Measure straight from shoulder to armhole seam down to bottom of armhole seam.

D.

Sleeve Overarm**

Measure fold edge of sleeve from shoulder/armhole seam to bottom edge of sleeve hem.

DL.

Sleave Underarm

Measure seam edge of sleeve from armhole seam to bottom edge of sleeve hem.

E.

Sleeve Opening

Measure from fold edge of sleeve to underarm seam at sleeve hem opening.

F.

Neck Opening

Fold garment at center front and center back matching shoulder seams on top of each other. Smooth collarette to body seam to relax minor wrinkles. Do not stretch collar to body seam. Measure from center back neck fold to center front neck fold at collarette to body seam. (see figure for detail) double the measurement.

G.

Neck Open Str.

Stretched neck opening is made by fully extended collar to body seam. This measurement is usually defined as a minimum allowed. This measurement is rarely specified.

H.

Front Neck Drop

Measure from center back collarette to body seam, to center front collarette to body seam.

Back Neck Drop

Not defined for this direction

I.

Neck Width

Measure from left collarette to shoulder seam, to right collarette to shoulder seam, straight across.

J.

Collar Width

Measure from fold edge of collarette to collarette to body seam. Several measurements should be taken around the neck to verify even amount of cut-off.

K.

Across Shoulders

Measure in a straight line from left sleeve to shoulder seam to right sleeve to shoulder seam.

L.

Shoulder Width

Measure from sleeve to body seam along shoulder seam, to body to collarette seam. Both sides should be measured and equal.

M.

Bottom Hem

Measure from fold edge of hem to stitch line. Measure several times

N.

Sleeve Hem

Around the circumference of the hem to verify even cut-off. Hem should be straight and stitch line should not show a deep bite. The bottom hem must overlap at the start/finish

P.

Pocket Placement

Measured from hips down and centerline over

How do you Measure a Basic Tank Top?

Before Measuring:

Measure from center back neck fold to center front neck fold at top edge of binding. (see figure for detail)double the measurement.

H.

Front Neck Drop:

Measure from center back collarette to body seam, to center front collarette to body seam.

I.

Neck Width

Measure from binding edge to binding edge.

J.

Binding Width

Measure from fold edge of binding at binding to body seam. Several measurements should be taken around the neck to verify uniformity of binding. Check neck and armhole binding.

K.

Across Shoulder

Measure in a straight line from strap-to-strap at outer binding edges.

L.

Shoulder Width

Measure in a straight line from strap edge to strap edge at top.

M.

Bottom Hem

Measure from fold edge of hem to top-most stitch line. Measure several times.

O.

Across Front

Measure 7" down from shoulder seam. Measure horizontally across the front chest of the garment.

P.

Across Back

Turn garment face down. Measure 7" down from shoulder seam. Measure horizontally across the back of the garment.

How do you Measure Strapped Tank Tops?

Before Measuring:
Review Figure 6 before measuring.

Lay garment flat on surface, face up, smoothed with no wrinkles.

Do not stretch any part of the garment!

Note: A strapped Tank Top is denoted by binding straps instead of bound body fabric at the shoulders

Mid Torso:

Measure 8" down from center front seam, then measure width from sideseam to sideseam

Bottom Sweep:

Measure width straight across bottom at hem fold edge

P.

Bottom Hem:

Measure from fold edge of hem to top-most stitch line. Measure several times

How do you Measure a Placket?

How do you Measure Shorts?

Crown Seam Symmetry

Viewed from the top, the intersection of opposing seams should be radial from the center crown point (as the spokes of a wagon wheel)

I.

Button Placement

Viewed from the top, button should be centered at the intersection of the seams

J.

Helm Vent Height

Measure from bottom of sweatband to back panel junction, in a straight line to the center edge of the helm vent

K.

Strap Length

Measure the length of visible strap from band to crown seam to end of strap

How do you Measure a Robe?

Before Measuring:
Review Figure below for reference.

Surface used for garment measuring should be clean and smooth. Do not use fabric. covered surfaces for garment measuring.

Lay garment flat on surface, face up, smoothed with no wrinkles and with sleeves fully extended at a right angle to the body (except where otherwise noted).

Overlap lapels so that the side seam edge is perfectly flat, do not tie belt.

Do not stretch any part of the garment!
